Joe Angel Reynosa
CO-FOUNDER, 3X GRAMMY NOMINATED, BASSIST, BACKGROUND VOCALIST, PRODUCER
One of the founding members of the legendary group La Fiebre, Joe Angel Perez Reynosa was born on
May 15, 1963 in Pasadena, Texas. In his younger years when Joe Angel was 6 years old, he started
learning how to play guitar from his uncles. His influences ranged from the rock and roll of Elvis Presley and The Beatles. It was while under his mother’s and uncle’s watchful eyes that he gained experience and confidence. Years later, Joe Angel started playing music with his high school friends mostly showcasing a classic rock style, eventually partnering up and later becoming band mates that formed La Fiebre.
It was in the earlier years of the 1980’s that Joe Angel helped put together a rock group, but when they
had difficulty finding a bass player, Joe decided to switch over to play the bass guitar. The group played
for a while but when the drummer was asked to play with another more established group, their rock
band was disbanded. A mostly self-taught bass player, Reynosa’s grooves expanded to learning the various forms of folk, polka, and pop styles of Tejano music. His influencers that helped him develop his bass style included performers like Josefa, Mazz, and La Mafia. It was when Joe Angel’s cousin that was playing in a Tejano group called La Lumbre asked him to play bass for them that he honed in on his bass mastery. In 1984 Joe Angel helped put together a new group that would be known as La Fiebre. In the early 1990’s was awarded Tejano Music Awards “Most Promising Band”.
In less than a dozen years, Joe Angel, as a member of La Fiebre, had recorded 15 full-length albums /
CD’s and has been in the music scene performing, producing, and arranging studio recordings for over 40 years as the Bassist and backup vocals. He has left his mark on Tejano music history as an innovative
musician, arranger, and director. In 1988 his first album with La Fiebre was self-produced and recorded under the group’s own label, L.F. Records, and later produced three albums with Cara Records before signing with Capitol Records in 1991. A string of hits earned him 1 Gold and 2 Platinum records.
He is a Grammy Dual Voting Member, a 3x time Grammy nominee, and a Recording Academy Texas Chapter Member. He plans to continue to create and make the best
of Tejano music infusing his love of the Tex-Mex sounds along with various genres of music.
